What are the eligibility requirements for the Alberta Entrepreneur Farm Stream?

1. Work Experience: Candidates must demonstrate farm management skills through education, training, work experience, and financial documents of their current farming business. Additionally, a comprehensive business plan outlining the proposed Alberta farm must be submitted.
2. Investment Requirement: Candidates must have a minimum net worth of $500,000 CAD or access to these funds and must be willing to invest a minimum of $500,000 CAD of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta. A detailed business plan must be submitted outlining the investment intentions.

Note: The minimum investment requirement of $500,000 CAD may be subject to change, and applicants may be asked to demonstrate their ability to invest more than the minimum amount. The province prioritizes applications that offer the best opportunity for growth relevant to Alberta’s agri-food sector.

Alberta Entrepreneur Streams Application Procedure

Process for Applying to Alberta Farm Stream:

1. Initial Contact: Interested candidates must first contact Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) and Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF) to initiate the process.
2. Assessment by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development: Candidates must be assessed by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development prior to submitting an application.
3. Preparation: Candidates may consider arranging an exploratory visit to Alberta and must prepare a complete paper-based application with all required documentation.
4. Submission: The completed application with hard copies of all required documents must be submitted by mail to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AAF) office.
5. Approval by AAF: If the application is approved by AAF, it will be forwarded to AINP for further assessment.
6. Approval by AINP: If AINP also approves the application, the candidate will receive a provincial nomination from Alberta.
7. Application for Canadian Permanent Residence: Successful applicants must submit a federal application for Canadian permanent residence within six months of receiving a provincial nomination. The application must be paper-based and submitted by mail to the appropriate application center. The processing time for paper-based PNP applications for permanent residence is approximately 18 months.
