Federal Skilled Trades program (FST)

The Federal Skilled Trades (FST) program is a federal immigration program that is managed by the Express Entry system. It is intended for individuals with experience in skilled trades and uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to evaluate and rank candidates based on factors such as work experience, language proficiency, and education. Eligible candidates must have:

  • 2 years of full-time, or an equivalent in part-time, experience in a skilled trade within the last 5 years
  • A valid job offer or certification of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority
  • A minimum language proficiency of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 in English or French. Additionally, they must meet Canada’s basic admissibility requirements.
